John Oliver will begin interim hosting duties of “The Daily Show” on Monday, while Jon Stewart takes the summer off to make a film about a journalist who was imprisoned in Iran during the 2009 election protests.
A longtime “correspondent” on the hit Comedy Central program, Oliver’s first guest will be actor Seth Rogen. In an interview late last month, Oliver candidly predicted that the show’s ratings will dip during Stewart’s eight-week hiatus.
At the end of Thursday’s broadcast of “The Daily Show,” Oliver interrupted Stewart’s farewell to jokingly assert ownership of the hosting desk.
