“Last Week: Tonight” host John Oliver may be off air this week, but he felt strongly enough about the upcoming disaster that is April Fool’s Day to offer a personal appeal to his audience.

“April Fool’s Day is to comedy as St. Patrick’s Day is to Irish culture,” he said.

Oliver proceeded to demand his audience join him in swearing not to take any part in the holiday, which consists of pranks that “betray” the ones you love.

Raising his hand, Oliver got the audience to repeat his solemn pledge.

“If I see someone planning a prank, I will say to them, ‘hey you’re being a dick right now, stop being a dick,'” the host said.

“You’re being a dick right now,” the audience echoed. “Stop being a dick.”
