U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry promised a “big hug for Paris” before he showed up in France to show support after the attacks the killed 17 last week, and he delivered one on Friday in the form of folk-rock legend James Taylor.
Taylor played “You’ve Got a Friend” to an audience at city hall in Paris, peppering the old tune with French, as Kerry looked on.
“My visit to France is basically to share a big hug for Paris and express the affection of the American people for France and for our friends there who have been through a terrible time,” Kerry said on Thursday.

This feels pretty cheesy…
Utterly, over the top, absolutely self-consciously cheesy and kind of fabulous. I love this administration when they pull shit like this.
So…did Kerry just give France a mix-tape to let them know how we feel?
sigh.
I think you win the internetz today…
If the White House really cared about fighting terrorism they would have sent President Obama to sing “You’ve Got a Friend” instead. //
