Former U.N. ambassador John Bolton suggested Monday that far from being a whistleblower, former NSA contractor Edward Snowden ought to hang for committing treason against his country.

Fox News’ Bill Hemmer asked the George W. Bush alum whether Snowden deserved amnesty if he returned sensitive intelligence documents he took prior to fleeing to Russia via Hong Kong, as one NSA official expressed in a private opinion on Sunday.

“I think it’s a big mistake… My view is that Snowden committed treason, he ought to be convicted of that, and then he ought to swing from a tall oak tree,” Bolton said, as quoted by Mediate.
