Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio emailed supporters requesting monetary donations to help pay his legal expenses as he undergoes a hearing for contempt of court charges, the Los Angeles Times reported on Sunday.

Arpaio told supporters in the email sent Thursday that he felt “targeted” and “desperately” needed help.

“In some instances I have to personally pay for attorneys to represent me in these cases,” Arpaio wrote. “I do not have the personal wealth or the wherewithal to keep up with the costly demands of paying for attorneys to defend me.”

Arpaio requested the money after ignoring a judge’s orders in a racial profiling case.

In the email he reminded supporters that their monetary generosity could exceed his suggested donations.

“I desperately need your help to fight the numerous legal actions being waged against me,” Arpaio wrote. “And, please remember, unlike a political campaign, there are no limits to what you can give — and any amount is greatly appreciated! Please consult your tax professional for any tax deduction you may receive by giving to this organization.”

Of course old Joe will be sure to declare all these donations as income on his taxes. And he hints at the fact that the donations will not be eligible to be tax deductions.

  2. NO WAY!!!

I read an article which stated you have already a cost Maricopa county tax payers over 40 million dollars for your lawsuits! That cost could go as high as 80 million dollars.

Ass-hat, those tax dollars should have gone towards all the programs that were cut…like school lunches, education, etc.

That is the absolutist mindset that drives the GOP these days. No compromising, no middle ground, either with us or against us.
