A Georgia man toted an AR-15 rifle complete with what a television station described as a “100-round drum” of ammunition through the Atlanta airport, the station reported on Tuesday.
According to television station WSB, the man, Jim Cooley, attracted attention first from a fire marshall and then when an Atlanta police officer followed him to his car. But he told both he was well within his legal rights, posting videos of the interactions on YouTube.
An FBI spokesperson told the station Cooley didn’t break federal law by bringing the gun to the airport. The Clayton County solicitor general told the station that a Georgia law allows people to bring many guns into the airport as long as they don’t go past security.
“It shouldn’t matter what I carry, just that I choose to carry,” he told WSB. “If you don’t exercise your rights, the government doesn’t have any hesitation taking them away.”
