Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) said Sunday that he hoped other Republicans held off on endorsing presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump after he criticized the ethnicity of a federal judge.

Flake said on CBS News’ “Face the Nation” that Trump would have to change some of his views to get his endorsement, including his proposed ban on Muslims. He also said Trump should have apologized for saying that U.S. District Judge Gonzalo Curiel couldn’t fairly preside over cases against Trump University because of his “Mexican heritage.”

“So I hope that a number of us at least will withhold endorsement, I’ve not endorsed, until we see,” Flake said. “It’s not a comfortable position to not support your nominee of the party. None of us want to be in this position. But there are certain things that you can’t do as a candidate. And some of the things he’s done I think are beyond the pale.”
