Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) once suggested in an email that then-President Bill Clinton was too busy to deal with America’s policies toward Cuba. This was during the last year of Clinton’s presidency when he was caught up in the Monica Lewinsky scandal.
“Forceful diplomacy can make a difference and we have had none for the last seven years and the current President is preoccupied with other matters,” Bush wrote in an email in January 1999.
Bush, in that email exchange, promised to oppose any serious liberalizations to the U.S.’s policy to Cuba, according to The Washington Post, which first reported on some of the emails late Wednesday.
The email exchange is part of a trove of emails Bush plans to release in the coming year as an act of transparency.
Bush has recently made serious moves in what appears to be preparations for running for President in 2016.
