During a town hall in Claremore, Oklahoma, on Tuesday, Sen. James Lankford said that President Donald Trump should release his tax returns, according to the Tulsa World.
“He promised he would,” Lankford said when asked if the President should release his tax returns, per the Tulsa World. “He should keep his promise.”
A handful of Republican lawmakers believe Trump should release his tax returns, including Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and several members of the House Freedom Caucus.
At another event in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Lankford addressed the failed House bill to repeal and replace Obamacare and said it would not have passed in the Senate.
“The bill the House put out originally would have included twice as many people with half as much help,” he said, according to the Tulsa World. “That would not get through the Senate.”
The senator also criticized Trump’s social media use.
“I’m very aware our president is not a good example of how to do social media,” he told constituents on Tuesday, per the Tulsa World.
It seems someone’s paying attention to the mood of their constituents and trying to get out there ahead of the mess.
Coulda, shoulda, woulda. Yup. And we still have zerosky.
Lankford pays attention and is a skilled politician. That is the most dangerous kind.
That’s a good start, Senator.
Now please address how the GOP blocked Garland’s SCOTUS hearings, all the clowns and destructive individuals it rubber-stamped for Trump’s cabinet, all of the controversies involving the president and why you aren’t advocating his impeachment.
A growing safety in numbers for congressional GOP?
In the past several days comments at town halls have included some criticism (not harsh, but firm) from a handful of different people. Tax Returns, Trips to Mara Lago, Problems with the attempted Repeal/Replace. It’s almost like the climate right after the Access Hollywood Tape - when numerous GOPers created distance. Which quickly dissipated - due the well known fear of the twitter vengeance of Trump.
Perhaps the power of the tweet is beginning to be viewed differently in face of the power of the Resistance at home?
Poor Pennywise the President - losing some of the power of his most valuable weapon for domestic unity/power among the GOP.
