Israel’s opposition Kadima Party has selected former defense and military chief Shaul Mofaz as the party’s new leader. Mofaz won a resounding victory over former Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni. Mofaz, promised party faithful that he would lead them to victory in the 2013 elections.

We will win the political and national battles we face,” he told a cheering crowd. “In the general elections we will replace Netanyahu’s government.”

Opinion polling shows potential trouble for Kadima with both the Labor and Meretz parties gaining ground.
