Al Jazeera reports that an Israeli court has found members of the Israeli army not guilty in the 2003 death of American activist Rachel Corrie. The 23-year-old, a member of the pro-Palestinian International Solidarity Movement, was killed in the Gaza Strip town of Rafah, run over by an Israeli bulldozer while protesting the Israeli destruction of Palestinian housing.

According to Judge Oded Gershon, “[T]here was no negligence on the part of the bulldozer driver.” Gershon dismissed any damages claims, noting that Corrie, from Washington state, “did not distance herself [from the bulldozer] as a reasonable person would.” Corrie’s family had requested only $1 in the lawsuit, but, said Gershon, “Her death is the result of an accident she bought upon herself.”
