An undated handout photograph issued by the Defense Audiovisual Communication and Production Unit (ECPAD) of the French Ministry of Defense on 15 November 2015 shows a French Rafale fighter jet part of the Operation Chammal taking off from a base in the Gulf. The French Air Force on 15 November 2015 launched a massive campaign of airstrikes against the Islamic State in its stronghold of al-Raqqa in Syria, the French news agency AFP reports, citing the Defence Ministry. The airstrikes come after at least 132 people were killed and some 350 injured in the terror attacks which targeted the Bataclan concert hall, the Stade de France national sports stadium, and several restaurants and bars in Paris on 13 November. Authorities believe that three coordinated teams of terrorists armed with rifles and explosive vests carried out the attacks, which the Islamic State (IS) extremist group has claimed responsibility for. Just days after the Islamic State claimed responsibility for a string of attacks across Paris that left 129 dead, the group released a video threatening to attack Washington D.C.

The video, which was posted on a dark web site used by ISIS, starts by recounting Sunday night’s French airstrikes on Islamic State targets in Syria, Reuters reported Monday.

“We say to the states that take part in the crusader campaign that, by God, you will have a day, God willing, like France’s and by God, as we struck France in the center of its abode in Paris, then we swear that we will strike America at its center in Washington,” a man dressed in fatigue and a turban reportedly says in the video.

CIA director John Brennan said Monday the U.S. has not underestimated the threat of ISIS, and while it is “inevitable” that the Islamic State will try to carry out attacks, “it is not inevitable that they are going to succeed.”

Washington, DC? Doesn’t ISIL know that our government is in a gridlock and unable to function cohesively since the election of the TeaLinquents?

After every military success we have against ISIS–just now Sinjar and the obliteration of that human stain, Jihadi John–ISIS will mount a spectacular and vicious attack on citizens of Western nations (and in Beirut, on Hezbollah areas).

OK. So what’s the plan? Either we wipe them out completely militarily–seems like it might be possible if we go after their oil resources–but their loyalists around the world will keep attacking.

Or we empower a strong peaceful resolution on Syria and get the Arab nations who are not supporting ISIS (clandestinely, and I’m looking at you Saudi Arabia) must work in concert to eliminate them and the ridiculous schism between Shia and Sunni at the root of all this strife.

Osama bin Laden determined to attack United States.

Think they’ll believe it this time and all head out of DC?

  5. An Islamic reformation is a pretty tall order. My question, and one I don’t think sufficiently addressed, involves their funding. How is it they can afford to cloth, feed, pay, and arm their forces? I don’t believe for a minute that the fungibility of oil explains their access to funding. Follow the money.
