In a tabloid-worthy twist, a Democratic lawmaker in Indiana has been busted for sexting with the same woman who brought down former Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) two years ago.

Indiana state Rep. Justin Moed (D) admitted on Tuesday that he sent sexts to Sydney Leathers, the woman who sexted with Weiner in 2013, the Indianapolis Star reported Tuesday night.

Moed, who is engaged and planning a September wedding, apologized in a statement to the Indianapolis Star.

“I am truly sorry I have hurt the ones I love most with my poor judgment. I am committed to rebuilding trust with my family and my community. This is a private matter and I ask for it to be treated as such. I apologize to my constituents and to everyone I have let down,” he wrote in the statement.

The New York Post initially reported last week that Leathers exchanged sexts with an unnamed lawmaker. Leathers then confirmed to Fox411 that she sexted Moed after TheDirty.com reported that Moed responded to one of Leathers’ ads seeking a sexual partner.

According to Fox411, Moed sent graphic sexual texts to Leathers using the Twitter handle “Bitch Boy.” The sexting relationship started when Moed responded to Leathers’ Twitter post in February in which she said she was looking for a “new, legitimate #findom slave. Must actually be willing to spend money or you are useless to me.”

A source also gave Fox411 a receipt showing that Moed purchased gifts for Leathers.

Leathers told the New York Post that she was shocked when she found out she had been sexting with another lawmaker.

“I’m a little speechless,” she said. “I Googled him and found out he’s a lawmaker. Apparently only politicians can pick up on my pheromones.”

She said that Moed was “into some really freaky stuff.” Leathers added that she hoped their relationship wouldn’t cost him his job.

“Is he displaying poor judgment by sexting me of all people? Obviously,” she told the Post. “But should sexual situations define politicians? They are human, after all.”

Following the sexting scandal with Anthony Weiner, Leathers began appearing in X-rated videos.

In the trailer for her first X-rated video, Leathers identified herself as the woman who had a sexting relationship with Anthony Weiner.

“I’m Sydney Leathers. Anthony Weiner and I had a ‘sexting’ relationship for several months, and that came out in the press, so here I am,” Leathers says in the video. “We had phone sex several times a week while this was going on. We did send each other pictures. They were pretty much all nude.”

Leathers has returned to school and is working toward a degree in radio and TV, according to the Indianapolis Star.
