Angus King, Maine’s independent Senator-elect, has not yet decided which party he will caucus with in the Senate, King said during an interview on MSNBC Wednesday morning. But he admitted that ultimately he would have to pick a side.
“So it looks like some kind of alignment at least for the purposes of organizing the Senate will probably be necessary in order to get a committee assignment or a good committee assignment,” King said. “This is a bit of uncharted territory.”
King said he will go down to Washington, D.C. next week for an orientation where he will be speaking with leadership from both parties.
King also said that he offered to get coffee each morning for Republican Sen. Susan Collins, who will now be the senior Senator from Maine. “She’s now the senior Senator and I offered to get her coffee each morning, you know, as the junior senator,” King said.
