Jon Huntsman Sr., the father of former Utah Gov. and 2012 presidential contender Jon Huntsman, denied Friday that he was behind the claim that Mitt Romney had not paid income taxes in a decade, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.

“It’s so ridiculous that people associate my name with Mitt Romney’s tax returns, like I would have interest in it or know about it,” Hunstman said to the Tribune.

Authors of the forthcoming book “Double Down” claimed that Huntsman Sr. was behind the claim circulated by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) that Romney had not paid his taxes.

Huntsman dissed the book in its entirety.

“These fellows who wrote this book, they dwell on falsehoods and false rumors,” he said. “They’re nothing but supermarket, tabloid trash. They ought to be ashamed of themselves.”

Huntsman referred all inquiries about Romney’s taxes to Romney himself.

“If people have questions about Mitt Romney’s taxes they ought to ask him about it,” Huntsman said.

Huntsman Sr. also denied that he was the source in August of 2012.
