Former House Speaker Dennis Hastert took the stand Wednesday during his sentencing in Illinois and apologized both to the FBI agents he misled and the alleged victims of his sexual abuse who had kept their secrets for decades.

“What I did was wrong and I regret it,” Hastert said, according to a report from the Chicago Tribune. “They looked to me and I took advantage of them.”

When judge asked Hastert if he abused them, Hastert replied ‘yes,’ according to the Tribune and sat back in his wheelchair.

  5. His real crime was to do literally what other Republican elites only do metaphorically. Except for the ones who also do it literally, I mean. Well, and also the part where he gave his victims money rather than taking from them.
