Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) on Wednesday endorsed Hillary Clinton’s presidential bid in an interview with CNN, a few days after she won Nevada Democratic caucus.
“I think the middle class would be better served by Hillary. I think that my work with her over the years has been something that I have looked upon with awe,” he told CNN in an interview published on Wednesday. “When she was the first lady, she started the trend toward doing something about health care. She understood the issue well, she was the front on the health care during that administration.”
Reid, who was first elected in 1986 and has been the Democratic Senate leader since 2004, declined to run for re-election this year and will retire in January at the end of his term. He has served in the Senate with both Clinton and her rival Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
He also said that Clinton is “the woman to be the first president of the United states that’s a female.”
Reid told CNN that he called Sanders with the news about his endorsement personally. Reid said Sanders was “so magnanimous, so kind and courteous.”
Bye, bye, Bernie.
Fivethirtyeight has the Endorsement Primary score as Clinton 473 vs Sander 3…
I will say this for Harry Reid. At least he waited til after the Caucus in his state, to avoid putting his finger on the scale. A classy move.
Not sure how much difference this makes, since a major party endorsement isn’t exactly news for the Clinton campaign.
Reid also put Nevada GOP Gov.Sandoval’s name up for vetting to replace Scalia.
Just one more Establishment player trying to secure a good seat at the Coronation.
