New Yorker and Fox News host Sean Hannity piped up again on behalf of the Confederate flag on Tuesday during an interview with presidential candidate New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R).
“Do you not believe that there are people on the other side of this issue who are not racist, but for other reasons like that flag?” Hannity asked.
Christie said he understood that, but mantained that the flag has become a hateful symbol.
“Well it’s been hijacked by some of these lunatic groups,” Hannity said.
“Well, of course,” Christie replied, going on to praise South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley’s (R) speech asking for the state legislature to take it down.
Last week, Hannity compared the symbology of the Confederate flag to rap music by arists like Jay-Z and Ludacris.
“If you’re going to ban the Confederate flag, why not ban sales of music that gratuitously uses the N-word?” he said.

The Confederate Flag has not been “hijacked”. That word implies that the Confederate Flag once stood for something else- the problem is that it didn’t. It has always been a “proud symbol” of racial intolerance and hatred. It has always been a symbol of defending slavery. Yes, it morphed into a symbol of Segregation, but that was just the South trying to refight the Civil War.
