Former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-IL) and his wife, former Chicago Ald. Sandi Jackson, both plan to appear in federal court on Wednesday, and both are expected to plead guilty to the charges filed against them late last week.
Jackson Jr., who resigned from Congress in November, allegedly used around $750,000 in campaign funds for his personal benefit, and faces charges of conspiracy, false statement, mail fraud, and wire fraud. Sandi Jackson faces a charge of filing false tax returns.
On Friday, Jackson Jr.’s attorney, Brian Heberlig, told The Chicago Tribune that his client had “accepted responsibility for his actions” and intended to plead guilty.
Jackson Jr. is scheduled to appear in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Sandi Jackson is scheduled to appear in the same courthouse at 2:30 p.m.
