Gov. Rick Snyder (R) greeted President Obama on the tarmac upon his arrival in Michigan on Monday, according to a White House pool report. Obama is expected to tour a Michigan auto plant as part of his lobbying effort for middle-class taxes in the so-called fiscal cliff negotations with Congressional Republicans.

Democrats strongly criticized Snyder on Monday for his pledge to sign controversial “right-to-work” legislation currently making its way through the state House and Senate that spawned union protests last week. Snyder previously maintained that the law would be too divisive for the state.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney declined to preview the President’s remarks in Michigan, noting his opposition to such laws in general, but Obama is expected to address the legislation in his remarks.
