New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that the Holland Tunnel and Brooklyn Battery Tunnel will close at 2 p.m. Monday as a precaution against flooding, at a press conference on Hurricane Sandy Monday morning. Cuomo also said that the state is calling up 1000 additional National Guard troops to help with the storm.

Thus far, Cuomo said the storm surge has already matched Hurricane Irene levels but is expected to get worse.

Cuomo thanked the federal government, saying he “couldn’t be asking for anything else from our federal partners.”
