Google has officially unveiled two new computers powered by its Chrome operating system, both made by its partner Samsung. One is a laptop, the Samsung Series 5, and the other is a desktop computer, the “Chromebox,” a small, slender rectangle reminsicent of the Mac mini. Both computers rely on the Chrome OS, which is entirely Web-based and requires an Internet connection to use most programs.

Early reviews from tech blogs have been kinder to this new line of Chrome computers than Google’s previous efforts, which failed to gain traction with consumers. The release comes on the heels of new third-party statistics indicating that Google’s Chrome Web browser, upon which its operating system of the same name is based, has become the most popular in the world
