Conservative radio host Glenn Beck settled a lawsuit on Tuesday with a Saudi Arabian student living in the Boston area whom Beck repeatedly misidentified as the “money man” behind the deadly 2013 Boston Marathon bombings.

Abdulrahman Alharbi filed the suit against Beck, his media companies The Blaze and Mercury Radio Arts, and his distributor, Premiere Networks, for defamation and slander in March 2014. Even after then-Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano publicly cleared Alharbi, who was injured in the bombings, of having any role in the attacks, Beck continued to push the narrative that he was involved.

The out-of-court settlement, announced Tuesday by U.S. District Court Judge Patti Saris, did not disclose financial terms. A statement from both parties said that no party “has admitted any fault, wrongdoing, or responsibility as part of the settlement.”

Last month, Saris had ordered Beck to reveal his confidential sources used in the Boston bombing reporting. Beck and his lawyers defied the order, saying that doing so would threaten the lives of their sources.

As Politico notes, the settlement knocks out the possibility of punitive damage in the case.

  3. Getting stroked a check with several zeros in it lessens the disappointment of being denied punitive damages.

  4. Beck settled because there WERE NO CONFIDENTIAL SOURCES. In fact, there were no sources at all!
They just saw a picture of a “Semitic Guy” near the bombing and labeled him a terrorist, then doubled-down when called on it. They thought they could get away with it, they were wrong.
