A Georgia teenager was killed Thursday when a rifle went off as he and his father geared up for a fishing trip, the Athens Banner-Herald reported.
Madison County sheriff’s Capt. Jimmy Patton said the victim, 15-year-old Brian Newsome, died at the scene. He told the newspaper that Newsome’s father was “extremely distraught” and said an investigation, which was still ongoing, indicated the shooting was accidental.
The gun discharged when Newsome’s father tried to load a boat on the Broad River near the Elbert County line, Patton said.
“There is a place where a lot of people put in boats. They had a rifle they took along in case they saw a wild hog,” he told the Banner-Herald. “Evidently they did this a lot.”
I hope the dad remembers to tell everyone that his son died with his FREEDOM! Yeah! We certainly don’t have to worry about anyone learning a lesson from any of this, so at least the pressure’s off!
It always brakes my heart to read stories of children being shot and killed. I prefer the stories (not that it makes it better but they are easier to deal with) of the child accidentally shooting the parent. At least in that way the one responsible for having the gun in the first place is the one that is injured.
Well of course. You can’t defend yourself with just a shotgun, every NRA rep knows that. If this man had an AR-15, and maybe a few flash grenades, THEN his kid would have been safe.
As the GOP always says, the solution to safety is always more guns. No matter the situation or the facts on the grounds, if this father had just had more guns around, that bullet wouldn’t have ripped through his son’s body. Makes sense to me !!
fishing trip, wild hog, gun? sounds like a great day of fishing. Good thing the bullet didn’t hit the dynamite box, would have killed everybody. To bad for the teen, he will never fish again courtesy of a very stupid father. No second chance on this one.
Weapons aren’t harmless just because they belong to you.
They’re like a rattlesnake just waiting for you to be careless, as this man obviously was. It’s too bad his son had to die in order for this man to learn that, if indeed he did learn anything.
