Gary Johnson, in his first televised debate since a low-key affair back in May, was asked why he should the choice for libertarian Republicans, instead of Ron Paul.
“I’m not gonna presume to make that assumption,” said Johnson. “But I do presume that I bring a unique perspective to this stage.”
He then touted his background as a self-made businessman, and his political success in getting elected and re-elected as Governor of New Mexico: “I promise to submit a balanced budget to Congress in the year 2013. I promise to veto legislation where expenditures exceed revenue. And if anyone doubts my willingness to veto bills, I think I vetoed more bills than any governor in the history of the United States. I think I vetoed more bills than all other governors combined.”
He then closed his answer by stating his support for replacing all federal taxes with a single national sales tax, which its proponents have called the “Fair Tax.”
