The FBI announced on Friday night that friendly fire was to blame for the death of Border Patrol agent Nicholas Ivie, who was killed while on duty earlier this week in the Arizona desert.

The Arizona Daily Star reported that federal investigators believe the shooting involved only Border Patrol agents and appeared to be accidental. A second agent was wounded. Earlier this week, various news outlets reported that the agents were assigned to a Border Patrol station named for former agent Brian Terry, whose death in the line of duty led to the Fast and Furious gunrunning scandal.
