The nation’s largest police union on Friday offered an enthusiastic endorsement of Donald Trump, saying the self-described “law and order candidate” had the “full support” of its members.

“He’s made a real commitment to America’s law enforcement and we’re proud to make a commitment to him and his campaign by endorsing his candidacy today,” National Fraternal Order of Police President Chuck Canterbury said in a statement.

Canterbury applauded Trump for meeting with local leaders of the union in August.

“He understands and supports our priorities and our members believe he will make America safe again,” Canterbury wrote.

The statement said that an endorsement of a candidate requires a two-thirds majority from the union’s 50-person national board.

Trump has said he would serve as a “cheerleader for the police” as president and address crime by putting “tough” cops in charge.
