France: Troops Will Start Leaving Mali In March

A spokesman for French President Francois Hollande said Wednesday that the French leader “confirmed that if all goes as planned, by the end of March the number of French troops engaged in Mali can begin to diminish,” according to the Financial Times

France has committed 4,000 troops and launched air strikes to fight Islamist militants who have taken over northern Mali. The assault has forced the rebels from Mali’s cities and into the desert.
