A soldier who recently returned from fighting Ebola in West Africa was found dead Tuesday outside his Texas home, the San Antonio Express-News reported.

The cause of the soldier’s death was unclear. Tyler Broadway, a spokesman for Fort Hood, told the paper he wasn’t sure whether the death was related to Ebola.

The soldier, who wasn’t identified, reportedly returned to Fort Hood on Wednesday along with other soldiers from the same mission and they were put into isolation at North Fort Hood. However, the soldier was on emergency leave from the base and was visiting family at the time of his death, the paper reported.

“He was allowed to leave, but he had to self-monitor himself and send those results in twice a day,” Broadway told the newspaper. The spokesman also noted that the Killeen Police Department hazmat team had responded to the scene.

    US freakout in 5, 4, 3…

  2. Yes. Very sad thing: man dies, and the r-wing will turn it into a BENGHAZZIIIBOLAAAAAAA! freakout for the sake of ratings. CNN’s Don Lemon will be right on that sh#t.

  3. THOUSANDS of these guys got shipped, in a panic, to Africa as part of “The War on Ebola.” With no thought for the ramifications. But we’re obsessed by the civilians (counted on one hand) who came back ill.

How can you say “no thought of the ramifications” when you should know that is not true?

  5. Uh-oh…that’s not good, and sadly for this man’ family it is a nightmare. But its probably also a limited situation that can easily be assessed and brought under control if others have been exposed. Too bad though that self-monitoring turns out to be much like self-deportation. Not a very good system if the honor system isn’t being honored. But then, we still don’t know much about the details yet, other than he was on emergency leave.
