A Virginia man who allegedly shot an employee of the Family Research Council in August because of the conservative group’s opposition to gay marriage was indicted on several additional charges on Wednesday. A federal grand jury returned a superceeding indictment which charges Floyd Lee Corkins, 28, with committing an act of terrorism and nine additional charges related to the Aug. 15 shooting.

The Corkins case marked the first time a defendant has been charged with committing an act of terrorism under the District of Columbia’s Anti-Terrorism Act of 2002, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office. If convicted, Corkins could face up to 30 years in prison on that charge alone.

Corkins also faces one count of attempting murder while armed, aggravated assault while armed, second degree burglary while armed and three counts of possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.
