Rick Scott speaks in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. In a victory for Republicans, the federal government has agreed to let Florida use a law enforcement database to challenge peopleís right to vote if they are suspected of not being U.S. citizens. The agreement, made in a letter Scottís administration that was obtained by The Associated Press, grants the state access to a list of resident non citizens maintained by the Department of Homeland Security. A 527 group associated with Florida Gov. Rick Scott (R) is airing a new stealth attack ad against former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist (D) quoting Democratic politicians in the state.

The ad, which a Florida TPM reader said aired Wednesday night on MSNBC, was released by the independent Let’s Get To Work political committee, but doesn’t feature Scott’s name directly.

The ad quotes a number of prominent Florida Democrats attacking Crist.

“He failed to lay out a business plan to get Florida out of its recession,” Florida Democratic Congressional candidate Alex Sink is quoted as saying in the ad.

Former Florida Rep. Karen Thurman (D) is quoted as saying Crist “has done nothing to create jobs … his core belief is personal ambition.”

A quote by Former Rep. Kendrick Meek (D) says Crist “can’t be trusted.” The ad also quotes former Vice President Al Gore saying “it’s a little unusual to have somebody flip flop and then … flop flip.”

A voiecover in the ad then concludes: “Who were they all talking about? This man. Charlie Crist.”

By airing the ad on a lefty network and using Democrats, Scott’s campaign appears to be attacking Crist from the left, possibly encouraging a more contested primary fight for the Democratic nomination. Crist’s announcement that he will run as a Democrat after he switching from Republican to Independent was met with some skepticism among some liberals in the state. Crist formally jumped into the Florida’ governor’s race on Saturday.

Correction: This post originally said the ad was aired by Rick Scott’s re-election campaign.
