Authorities in Louisiana said a five year-old girl died Saturday after she apparently shot herself with a handgun, NBC reported.

The girl was rushed to the hospital, but died of her injuries.

“The father said he was taking a shower when he heard a gunshot,” Lt. Greg Baker told NBC affiliate WDSU. “He got out of the shower, and that’s when he discovered that his daughter had accidentally shot herself.”

The father reportedly told authorities that he left his .45-caliber gun on the table. Baker told the news station that the bullet entered the girl’s chest and exited near her left arm.

But if a violent criminal had broken into his house while he was showering, not keeping the gun safely locked up would have saved him precious seconds in self-defense. Not.

Also, can we get rid of this “by accident” thing? “I left a pot of boiling water balanced on top of the door, and when someone walked in it accidentally fell down.”

  5. manslaughter and child endangerment… the ‘they’ve suffered enough with the death of the child’ nonsense has gone far enough…

    too far…
