Nook Media — the joint venture between Barnes & Noble and Microsoft that includes all of the Barnes & Noble Nook devices and digital content — has finally released its first app, Nook for Windows 8 and Windows RT. The app includes over 3 million titles, syncing across devices and free samples of all content. Prior to its team-up with Microsoft, Barnes & Noble also made its Nook app available for Android and Apple iOS devices. Barnes & Noble’s Nook devices also run a modified version of Android. But now that Nook is arm-in-arm with Microsoft to the tune of a $300 million investment from Microsoft in the combined venture, it remains to be seen whether or not Windows 8 will play a more prominent role in upcoming Nook devices, or vice versa.
