Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina’s campaign passed up an opportunity to knock Hillary Clinton on Tuesday after the Democrat was responding with laughter to a man who said he’d like to “strangle” the former Hewlett-Packard CEO.
Instead, Fiorina’s campaign used it as a chance to attack the media.
A man at a Clinton campaign event Tuesday in New Hampshire told the former secretary of state that he was fired by Fiorina and wanted to “strangle her” every time he saw her on TV.
Clinton laughed and told the man, “I wouldn’t mess with you.”
Afterward, TPM reached out to Fiorina’s campaign for response.
Spokeswoman Anna Epstein replied with an email that only had a link to a tweet from Fiorina’s deputy campaign manager, Sarah Isgur Flores:
Let’s all watch @HillaryClinton‘s media lapdogs explain why this is ok in 3, 2, 1….#whatbias

Pressed by TPM for a statement about Clinton’s reaction, Epstein passed.
“That’s a response from our Deputy Campaign Manager about the video,” she told TPM by email.
Epstein did not immediately reply when asked if the campaign was giving Clinton a pass for laughing at the man’s comment.
