Former Rep. Artur Davis (D-AL), who left the Democratic Party and has become active in Virginia Republican circles, headlined a small Romney campaign event on Thursday. Davis, a former member of the Congressional Black Caucus, lost the Democratic primary for governor of Alabama in 2010, after he voted against President Obama’s signature health care reform.
The Washington Examiner reports:
It was a rather modest affair. Davis appeared at the home of Romney supporters Michael and Megan Daubert to talk about the federal deficit and slam the Obama administration for not doing more to work with Republicans on it. The event was organized in part by the Romney campaign, which also filmed it.
Asked if he was now a Romney surrogate, Davis replied: “I don’t think there is a place where you get an official surrogate card. If there is, they haven’t told me about it. I don’t think there is a box that you check to be an official surrogate.”
