EMILY’s List, the well-funded group that supports pro-choice Democratic women for national office, is encouraging Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes (D) to challenge Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) for Senate after a poll released Tuesday found the two tied at 45 percent each in a hypothetical 2014 matchup.
“Mitch McConnell is one of the least popular Senators in the country and it is clear that Kentuckians are looking for real change. Allison Grimes is an impressive candidate who would bring a refreshing perspective to end the Mitch McConnell era of gridlock and partisan politics in Washington,” EMILY’s List spokeswoman Marcy Stech told TPM. “We are excited about her potential run and an opportunity to send McConnell packing.”
Grimes hasn’t announced her intentions yet.
The survey was conducted for an anti-McConnell group by the Democratic-affiliated Public Policy Polling.
