Law enforcement officials on Monday identified one of the two gunmen who opened fire on Sunday at a Muhammed cartoon contest near Dallas as a Phoenix resident named Elton Simpson, the New York Times reported.

The FBI was searching an apartment in Phoenix that they believe is connected to Simpson and the second gunman, according to the Times.

ABC News first reported that officials identified Simpson as one of the the suspects in the shooting.

Two gunmen were killed after they opened fire on a Muhammed cartoon contest at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. One security officer was injured in the shooting, and was released from the hospital on Sunday night.
