World famous musician Sir Elton John posted Monday that after a successful phone call from Russian President Vladimir Putin, he will meet face-to-face with the leader to discuss LGBT rights in the country.

John, a humanitarian and vocal advocate for LGBT rights for decades, said in a recent interview while visiting Ukraine that he wanted the chance to talk to Putin about his “ridiculous” anti-gay laws.

And based on an Instagram of the straight-faced Russian President from John’s verified account, that meeting is actually happening.

Putin has backed infamously anti-gay legislation, which was thrust into the international spotlight ahead of the nation hosting the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Russia outlawed “propaganda of nontraditional sexual practices” among minors in June 2013, and Putin has said that LGBT people pose a danger to children.

John had earlier posted he asked Ukrainian President Petro Poroshanko to ban workplace discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and identity and provide criminal penalties for hate crimes.
