The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee released a new television ad attacking state Sen. Joni Ernst, the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in Iowa, for signing Americans for Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge.

The ad features the voice of Angie Smith of Kellogg, Iowa who said she lost her job to outsourcing.

“Joni Ernst signed a pledge to protect special interests,” Smith said. “A pledge to protect special tax breaks for big oil, to protect tax breaks for corporations shipping jobs overseas.”

Smith added “when I lost my job due to outsourcing, sure wish Joni Ernst would have signed a pledge to protect me.”

It’s not the first time that Ernst has been hit on special interests and specifically her decision to sign Norquist’s tax pledge. In July billionaire environmentalist Tom Steyer’s NextGen Climate also released an ad hitting Ernst for signing the pledge.

The Ernst campaign said the ad was a misrepresentation of the facts.

“Congress man Bruce Braley is the only candidate in this race who has financially invested in big oil and has cast votes in Congress in favor of special interests,” Ernst spokeswoman Gretchen Hamel said.

The ad is part of a multi-million dollar ad buy and is running statewide throughout Iowa, according to a DSCC official.
