Veteran Democratic strategist Donna Brazile said in a story published Wednesday that President Barack Obama has fallen short in his attempts “to bridge the divide” in America.

The story, published by the New York Times, focuses on the handful of states that Obama has either visited only once or not at all. In those states, opposition to the administration’s agenda has been largely unchecked.

Brazile, the former campaign manager for Al Gore and now a CNN contributor, told the Times that while it’s challenging for presidents to bring together disparate constinuencies, Obama could have done better.

“Every president should make an attempt to bridge the divide,”  Brazile said. “It’s a tall order. I wouldn’t give him high marks.”
