Presidential candidate and opinion-giver Donald Trump announced on Thursday that he plans to sue the Spanish-language broadcaster Univision after the company said it was severing ties with Trump and backing out of its contract to broadcast his Miss USA pageant.
“Univision, I’ve gotta sue them now because I speak negatively about trade with Mexico!” Trump said to Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson, whom he addressed as “Greta” at times during the interview.
“You say you’re suing them because you have a signed contract,” Carlson said.
“Of course I have a signed contract. Five years they have to pay me almost $15 million,” Trump said. “They can’t do this.”
Carlson asked Trump whether he wanted to withdraw the comments that alienated the company, made during his presidential announcement, that Mexican immigrants entering the US are primarily drug dealers and rapists.
“Greta (sic), that’s what’s happening!” Trump said. “Of course they’re criminals in many cases, why would I change that statement?”
“Of course I’m standing by the statement, everybody knows it’s true!” he said, speaking over Carlson.
Earlier in the day, the broadcaster released a statement declaring was severing business with Trump, including broadcasting the Miss USA pageant on July 12.
“At Univision, we see first-hand the work ethic, love for family, strong religious values and the important role Mexican immigrants and Mexican-Americans have had and will continue to have in building the future of our country,” the statement said.

Donald Trump. The man is universally stupid and rotten from the core out. If he does have a signed contract–which I do not doubt–and he’s holding up his own end of the deal, then he’s in the right here from a legal standpoint.
It will be interesting to see what Univision comes up with, as I can’t imagine they made this decision without some sort of legal cover.
