A New York state lawmaker asked Gov. Andrew Cuomo Monday to rename the “Donald J. Trump State Park” after the Republican presidential candidate has “shown that he is untrustworthy of having a New York State Park named in his honor,” according to the letter BuzzFeed News obtained.

State Senator Daniel L. Squadron, who is a Democrat, wrote Cuomo that he is also introducing legislation to rename the park “with a more appropriate one.”

The park sits on 436 acres of land that Trump had planned to develop into a golf course. When those plans failed, though, he donated the property to the state in 2006, according to a New York Times article.

“Mr. Trump’s presidential campaign has been bigoted and destructive — the state should send a message that his rhetoric and proposals are contrary to New York’s values,” Squadron said in an email to TPM.

Trump’s campaign did not immediately return TPM’s request for comment.

  1. That Drumpf will have a fit is a given. The only question is - will the fit be of the hissy or conniption type?

  2. I’m guessing this is a dog park.

Failed? I thought donald never failed, that he’s so smart and so talented and so charismatic that everything falls in line for him.

What kind of tax break did he get for donating the property, and who suffered real losses because of his failure?

Edit to add: donald claimed the property was worth $100 million in his tax writeoff. Someone needs to investigate not just this property, but all his tax writeoffs of substantial amounts.

Not even worthy of being a dog park. It looks like cr@p, and so does its Facebook page: http://on.fb.me/1I50uyf

  5. 436 acres is one heck’ve a dog park. I bet my pooch would LOVE space like that. She’s a coonhound and needs to run and in order to do that she needs space. 40-50 acres of meadow would be perfect but I’ll settle for 436 no problem.
