Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Monday that he would refuse to take a government salary if he is elected President of the United States.

Trump took part in a Twitter Q&A in which he responded through video to questions posed to him by users.

A user named @Modern_Do_Good asked Trump if he would forego the presidential salary if elected.

The President earns a salary of $400,000 per year.

“I’m totally self-funding my campaign. I won’t take money other than the small stuff because people are invested and I like that when they invest in the campaign. But I don’t take the big dollars,” Trump said. “As far as the salary is concerned, I won’t take even $1, I am totally giving up my salary if I become President.”
