When asked how he would respond to Pope Francis if he made a comment about capitalism promoting greed, Donald Trump gave a confusing answer about the Islamic State.
“I’d say ISIS wants to get you. You know that ISIS wants to go in and take over the Vatican, you have heard that, you know, that’s a dream of theirs to go into Italy,” Trump told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Wednesday when asked how he would respond to the pope.
Cuomo then clarified that Trump would attempt to scare the pope.
“I’m going to have to scare the pope because it’s the only thing,” Trump said in response. “The pope — I hope can only be scared by God. But the truth is, you know, if you look at what’s going on, they better hope that capitalism works, because its the only thing we have right now and it’s a great thing when it works properly. In our country, Chris, it has not been working properly.”
Trump later added that he doesn’t “think the pope is opposed to capitalism.” He also said that Pope Francis “seems like a pretty good guy” even though he is “becoming very political.”
Watch Trump’s interview with CNN:
If Nixon heard this he would stop talking to the portraits long enough to say, “Now that’s a guy who’s nuts.”
Something tells me that this Pope would not give the carny barker more than a perfunctory time of day nod!
Some questions for the dumpster…
The thing I hear supporters of Trump say most often about his appeal to them is something along the lines of, “He says what we’re thinking.”
This thing, though, is just a stream-of-consciousness emoting. It is not thinking. Why he’s not getting called on this by the other candidates is something I just don’t understand.
Like any intelligent person, the Pope can see right through this blowhard. Somebody better tell Trump that empty wingnut fear-mongering isn’t really going to work with Francis.
He needs to first start getting called on it by the “journalists.” What he did with Megyn Kelly was brilliant. Now anyone that wants to call him on his bullshit has started a war with Trump, and he can take his ratings elsewhere. Should a real news organization be afraid of this? No. Are they? You betcha.
