Donald Trump’s Twitter feed is a well-known fountain of misinformation, so it makes sense that the reality television star’s political endorsements on the social media network have also been filled with errors.
On Monday, Trump once again used Twitter to express support for a Republican U.S. Senate candidate. And once again, Trump’s tweet contained a noticeable blunder.
Calling on Kentucky voters to re-elect Mitch McConnell, Trump said that the Senate minority leader could be in line for a leadership position in the other chamber.
“Why would the people of Kentucky want a rookie Senator — they have Sen. Mitch @McConnellPress who may be next Speaker & bring $’s to KY?” Trump tweeted.
Now, to be fair, one doesn’t have to be a member of the House of Representatives to become speaker. But the likelihood of McConnell leapfrogging House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) is, well, pretty far-fetched.
The scenario that Trump probably envisioned is for McConnell to succeed Harry Reid as Senate majority leader.
But when it comes to 2014 Twitter endorsements, Trump can’t seem to get out of his own way.
In early-August, Trump erroneously described Arkansas Senate hopeful Tom Cotton as a Rhodes Scholar before eventually deleting the tweet.
Later that month, Trump tried to tweet his support for former Massachusetts Sen. Scott Brown, the carpetbagging Republican currently running against Sen. Jeanne Shaheen in New Hampshire. But in his attempt to take a swing at Shaheen, Trump mistakenly tweeted at a Rhode Island lawmaker instead.
“Donald Trump Keeps Screwing Up” is all you needed.
Derp.
Isn’t using the words Trump and misinformation in the same sentence redundant?
Trump is not the sharpest tool in the drawer.
Trump’s cognitive abilities have been impaired by the fact that he is a syphilitic.
