Real estate mogul and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Friday that he thinks former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton “just blamed me for the horrendous attack that took place in South Carolina.”

Trump was responding to comments Clinton made on Thursday about the killing of nine people in a historic black church in Charleston, South Carolina. She said heated national discourse about race could “trigger” unstable people and made a reference to comments Trump made about Mexicans earlier in the week.

The shootings at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church were perpetuated by a white gunman, identified by authorities as Dylann Roof, and resulted in the deaths of nine black people.

Trump, who Thursday shared his condolences via Twitter, posted an Instagram video about Clinton’s “new low.”

“Wow!” Trump said. “It’s pretty pathetic that Hillary Clinton just blamed me for the horrendous attack that took place in South Carolina. This is why politicians are just no good. Our country’s in trouble.”

Trump’s post, which carried the caption “Hillary Clinton reaches new low. #TrumpVlog,” is below:

Clinton made her comments Thursday during an appearance on “Ralston Live.”

Host John Ralston asked her about the Charleston shootings and what she would do to prevent future attacks.

“There a number of factors feeding into this,” Clinton said. “We have to have a candid national conversation about race, and about discrimination, prejudice, hatred. The people who do this kind of dastardly, horrible act are a very small percentage. But unfortunately, the public discourse is sometimes hotter and more negative than it should be.”

Clinton said such discourse could, in her opinion, “trigger people who are less than stable to do something like what we saw” in Charleston.

“I think decent people need to stand up against it,” Clinton said. “We should not accept it. … We have to speak out against it. Like for example, a recent entry into the Republican presidential campaign said some very inflammatory things about Mexicans. Everybody should stand up and say ‘that’s not acceptable.’”

Clinton didn’t mention Trump by name, but it appeared to be a reference to his presidential campaign announcement earlier in the week in which he referred to some Mexican immigrants as “rapists.”

“He is emblematic,” Clinton said, “so I want people to understand it’s not about him it’s about everybody.”
