Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt on Monday that Republicans in Congress should shut down the government in an effort to defund Planned Parenthood.
Democrats in the Senate on Monday blocked a bill that would remove federal funds from Planned Parenthood, which is in the spotlight after several videos were released that reportedly show representatives of the organization discussing selling fetal tissue.
Republicans could choose to continue attempts to remove federal funding from the organization, by possibly putting the topic in the budget bill, which has to pass by Sept. 30 to avoid a government shutdown, according to The Washington Post.
“That’s the only way to get rid of Planned Parenthood money for selling off baby parts is to shut the government down in September,” Hewitt told Trump. “Would you support that?”
“I would, and I was also in support if the Republicans stuck together you could have done it with Obamacare also, but the Republicans decided not to stick together and they left a few people out there like Ted Cruz,” Trump told Hewitt. “You know, they left a lot of the people who really went in and wanted to do the job and you know what? If they had stuck together they wold have won that battle. I think you have to in this case also, yes.”
Listen to Hewitt’s interview:
Oh, my. Trump says an actual policy/strategy position, and it is government shutdown.
Another 1 percenter who would rather let people in poverty suffer and die. Why am I not surprised.
I agree…they should shut down the government until at least January…then maybe people will get furious enough to never vote Republican again!
Donald just wants to snap the country up cheap and rename it Trumpmerica.
Yup, so close to the 2016 election that the stench will still be fresh.
