Donald Trump opened his Wednesday foreign policy speech in Washington, D.C., by introducing the overarching theme of his foreign policy proposals: put America first.

He said that his foreign policy strategy will replace “randomness with purpose, ideology with strategy and chaos with peace.” And he said that his plans will always put the security of Americans first.

“America first will be the major and overriding theme of my administration,” he said.

Trump showed reverence for Ronald Reagan’s foreign policy approach in the Cold War and said that the United States’ foreign policy has since veered off course. He said that “logic was replaced with foolishness and arrogance,” which helped throw the Middle East “into chaos.”
