The Justice Department will announce its lawsuit against Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Thursday. DOJ said in a letter to Arpaio yesterday that they planned to file the suit but didn’t give a timeframe. The Department first announced the results of its investigation into alleged civil rights violations by Arpaio’s office back in December but had been trying to negotiate with the Arizona sheriff over the past few months. They acknowledged last month that the negotiations had failed and accused Arpaio of repeatedly trying to delay the proceedings.
A press conference is scheduled for 1 p.m. eastern time.
