Vice President Dick Cheney condemned Russia on Thursday for what he called an "illegitimate, unilateral attempt" to change Georgia's borders by force. Speaking during a closely watched trip to this U.S.-allied South Caucasus nation, Cheney also assured Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili that the United States was "fully committed" to his country's efforts to join NATO. Former Vice President Dick Cheney on Tuesday floated one of the “theories” he’s heard about Barack Obama — that the president may just be intentionally trying to destroy America from the inside.

Cheney sketched out the idea in an interview with rightwing radio host Hugh Hewitt.

“I vacillate between the various theories I’ve heard, but you know, if you had somebody as president who wanted to take America down, who wanted to fundamentally weaken our position in the world and reduce our capacity to influence events, turn our back on our allies and encourage our adversaries, it would look exactly like what Barack Obama’s doing,” Cheney said.

The scenario Cheney described was similar to the plot of “The Manchurian Candidate,” a novel and film that told a story of a brainwashed American politician used as a sleeper agent by communists seeking to “take America down.”

“I think his actions are constituted in my mind those of the worst president we’ve ever had,” the former vice president added.

  1. Senility is such a sad thing to behold. I know we’ve all had older relatives that have gone through this. It’s not easy for anyone. I hope that the Cheney family gets the help and support they need. My thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

  2. Pretty clever of President Obama to go ahead and save the US economy from Cheney’s mismanagement…it sure confused the old chickenhawk.

  3. This kind of despicable vileness is why James Fallows, a person of immense dignity who only rarely criticizes people on a personal level, said Cheney was the “most ill-tempered figure to hold national office since Richard Nixon.”

  4. Gee – and people have accused me of being a conspiracy theorist regarding 9/11. Sorry, Dick the War Criminal, but you have nothing of value to add here … like you ever did anyway, except, perhaps for the marriage equality issue (but if Mary weren’t gay, would you have discovered that empathy from within? – I kinda doubt it).
